Kratom? What is that?

If you decide to buy kratom online, you must know and understand the properties of this plant. Kratom with the scientific name Mitragyna Speciosa, is a hard-trunked tree from the Rubiaceae family that was first documented by Pieter Korthals, a Dutch botanist who named the genus “Mitragyna” because of its similarity to the bishop’s counterpart.

The Mitragyna Speciosa tree is endemic in the tropical rainforests of Thailand and Indonesia and usually grows 15 feet wide and averages about 30 feet high. Mitragyna Speciosa can thrive in areas with humus-rich wet soil conditions, and requires mineral, rich of soil for healthy trees to grow. In generally, the ripe Mitragyna Speciosa leaves are dark in color and quite large, up to 7 inches long and 4 inches wide. The leaves fall or grow depending on the season, and throughout the flowering stage, the florets are completely surrounded and covered by overlapping bracteoles.

This plant is occasionally found growing wild in a number of countries in Southeast Asia, especially in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Mitragyna Speciosa The tree grows leaves which, according to research, are “extremely rich in therapeutic and calming properties,” and are therefore considered to be one of the most sacred plants in the region. In Southeast Asia, the powder from the leaves of Mitragyna Speciosa has been used in ceremonies, rituals and traditional medicine for centuries and only in recent years has it become known to the world community.

History

In its history, the mention of Mitragyna Speciosa has existed for thousands of years and information and research about it, since hundreds of years ago has spread accurately along with technological developments in the world. Over the years, many botanists and researchers have succeeded in conveying the true uses of this plant; however long term studies on Kratom are still awaiting quality research.

Unlike many other herbs, this botanical journey has an unfortunate travel story due mostly to traditional uses as well as folk medicine for farmers and workers facing forced labor in Southeast Asia. According to Western literature, the first description of Mitragyna Speciosa, now known as Kratom, comes from Pieter Willem Korthals, a botanist who worked for the East India Company. Additional research results came from Low, in 1836. He mentioned that Malaysian farmers and rural workers distributed it in Malaysia.

The first appearance of medical research was recorded in 1907 when L.Wray sent samples of Mitragyna Speciosa and his relatives to the University of Edinburgh where Hooper isolated the alkaloids. This research was corrected in 1921 when Fray named the alkaloid Mitragynine and isolated Mitraversine from the leaves of Mitragyna parvifolia. Then another medical study came in 1930 from I. H. Burkill, who studied psychoactive effects and explained its traditional use as medicine, called it a treatment for diarrhea and fever and could be used as an ointment. This research is confirmed by Dr Thailand’s 1975 study. Dr.Sangun Suwanlert, and the discovery of three additional alkaloids.
